Emma asked why Bianca ruined her dress.
Sophia froze.
I answered carefully.
“Because she was angry and made a bad choice.”
“At me?”
“No.”
Important.
“Then why my dress?”
Harder.
“Because sometimes adults hurt the wrong person when they’re angry.”
Emma considered.
Then:
“Can Mommy fix it?”
Maybe.

A seamstress saved what remained.
The missing section could not be restored invisibly.
So Sophia made a decision.
“Don’t hide it.”
The repaired hem looked different.
New fabric.
Old lace.
Visible seam.
Emma loved it because the new section had tiny embroidered flowers.
