Chapter 13

Nolan’s resistance lasted eleven days.

Subcontractors began sending formal demands to Vale Heritage.

One threatened suit.

Another produced emails showing Nolan had promised the east-wing project would proceed immediately after the wedding.

Rebecca used those emails to negotiate.

The Moretti family would pay only for architectural and construction work Galen had actually authorized or directly benefited from.

Nolan would absorb costs he had incurred based on assumptions and false representations.

That distinction mattered.

So did evidence.

Margaret provided staff schedules.

Chelsea preserved wedding directives.

Dr. Levin provided a factual statement explaining that she had never recommended removing Sofia’s belongings.

The architect produced Nolan’s email about resolving the “child transition issue.”

Teresa documented interviews with employees who had witnessed items disappearing immediately before Eira’s recorded distress.

Nobody needed a secret recording.

Nobody needed a dramatic confession.

The pattern existed because Ainsley and Nolan had left ordinary traces everywhere.

Rebecca assembled them chronologically.

Then one final document arrived.

The seamstress who had made Eira’s flower-girl dress forwarded her correspondence with Ainsley.

Three days before the rehearsal, Ainsley had written:

IF THE SOFIA LACE IS STILL THERE, I’LL REMOVE IT MYSELF.

The seamstress had replied:

PLEASE DO NOT CUT THE DRESS WHILE EIRA IS WEARING IT.

Ainsley had answered:

THEN SHE SHOULD LEARN NOT EVERYTHING FROM HER MOTHER GETS TO FOLLOW HER INTO MY MARRIAGE.

Galen read the message once.

Then put it down.

That was enough.

Not because it was the most dramatic evidence.

Because it proved the rehearsal confrontation had been planned before Ainsley ever picked up the shears.

Rebecca scheduled one final meeting.

Ainsley and Nolan would receive a written settlement proposal covering property access, renovation costs, family boundaries, and public statements.

They could accept responsibility.

May you like

Or the dispute would proceed through separate legal and financial channels.

For the first time since the ballroom, neither sibling could claim the confrontation had simply gotten out of hand.
