Chapter 8

Roman made four decisions that could not be quietly undone.

First, Marco was suspended from every D’Angelo company, foundation, trust, estate account, and family office position.

His financial access ended before noon.

Second, Helena lost all authority over Roman’s household, accounts, charity club, and security.

She was moved out of the main estate into a separate residence she already owned.

No contact with Sophie unless Nora and child professionals approved it.

Third, Roman legally and publicly corrected Sophie's status within every legitimate family record that mattered.

School paperwork.

Medical authorizations.

Trust documents.

Estate records.

The D’Angelo family foundation.

He was her father.

Not a hidden benefactor.

Not an unnamed support source.

Not a family rumor.

Her father.

Nora watched him sign the papers.

“You know this puts her name closer to yours.”

“Yes.”

“That used to be what I was afraid of.”

“I know.”

“You don’t get to decide that fear disappeared because Helena lied.”

Roman looked at her.

“I know.”

That answer mattered.

The fourth decision cost the most.

Roman authorized a complete independent forensic audit of the charity club and every legitimate D’Angelo entity Marco had touched during the previous five years.

Outside accountants.

Outside counsel.

Required reporting if evidence crossed legal lines.

His own approvals included.

Lauren warned him.

“This could expose your failures too.”

“Good.”

“Roman.”

“I delegated to Marco. I trusted my mother. I let family systems handle Nora because I thought that was safer than direct conflict.”

He looked at the vault.

“My name is on part of this even if my signature was forged.”

The family objected immediately.

Capos called the audit reckless.

An uncle said Roman was risking the entire organization over an old relationship.

Roman corrected him.

“My daughter.”

The uncle stopped.

Nora and Sophie moved into a secure but ordinary rental home selected through Nora’s own attorney.

Not the D’Angelo estate.

Not Roman’s guesthouse.

Nora signed the lease.

Nora controlled the keys.

Roman paid legally documented support directly into an account she could see.

No Marco.

No Helena.

No family courier.

That evening Roman visited Sophie.

She was building a tower on the living-room floor.

“Daddy?”

“Yes?”

“Are you going away?”

Roman sat beside her.

“Not unless Mommy says I need to leave the house.”

Nora looked over from the kitchen.

“That was almost funny.”

“I’m improving.”

Sophie handed him a block.

Roman placed it badly.

She fixed it.

For twenty minutes there were no accountants.

No vault.

No family.

Then Lauren called.

The audit had found that Marco’s fraud went deeper than the records Helena had seen.

And the documents he showed her three years earlier had been created for one very specific purpose.

To make Helena afraid of Nora before Nora ever had a chance to speak to Roman.
