Chapter 8

Sophronia lost household authority.
Not family.
Authority.
No staff scheduling.
No charity hosting alone.
No power over residences.
No decisions involving spouses.
She called it humiliation.
I said:
“No.”
Then:
“It is reduced control.”
People accustomed to authority often experience boundaries as degradation.
She moved to another property temporarily.
Dulcie did not ask me to remove her.
Important.
This was not revenge executed for my wife.
It was consequence from my responsibility.
Weeks later, Sophronia asked to see Dulcie.
Dulcie said no.
Good.
Two months later, still no.
Good.
Then one day Dulcie said:
“Ten minutes.”
Her choice.
They met in the conservatory.
Same room.
No auction table.
No microphone.
I stayed away.
Later Dulcie told me only one part.
Sophronia said:
“I thought if you endured quietly, you proved you could survive this family.”
Dulcie answered:
“I already survived losing a husband who was still alive.”
That ended the conversation.
Sophronia cried.
May you like
Dulcie did not comfort her.
Also good.
