Chapter 14

Gavin read the email without speaking.

His shoulders finally collapsed.

Sienna stood across from him.

No tears now.

No shaking.

Just stillness.

“When did you write it?”

Gavin rubbed both hands over his face.

“After the audit started.”

“Why?”

His eyes remained down.

“In case you took the kids.”

Sienna inhaled slowly.

“So you were preparing to call me unstable.”

“I was scared.”

Her expression did not change.

“That sentence has become very expensive.”

Gavin looked up.

For the first time, there was no arrogance.

Only a man looking at the consequences of choices he kept calling reactions.

Nico watched.

Part of him wanted punishment immediately.

Remove Gavin.

Destroy his business.

Make every door close.

He could do it before midnight.

Sienna knew.

She turned toward him.

“Don't.”

Nico’s jaw tightened.

“He—”

“I know what he did.”

Her voice stayed calm.

“Don’t turn my divorce into your revenge.”

The room went silent.

Nico’s fingers moved toward the missing signet ring on instinct.

It was still on the table.

He stopped.

“What do you want?”

Sienna looked at Gavin.

“Lawyers.”

Then Marjorie.

“Distance.”

Then Sabrina.

“Accountability.”

Then Dominic.

“Every account opened.”

Finally her father.

“And nobody fixing my life without asking me.”

Nico nodded once.

That was harder than retaliation.

He did it anyway.

Independent counsel received the financial records.

The hidden support network was disclosed to legitimate boards and auditors.

Gavin was removed from estate access and operational roles where Nico had lawful authority.

Not from fatherhood by Nico’s command.

Custody and family arrangements would move through the proper process.

Marjorie lost access to Ferrante properties.

Sabrina surrendered financial credentials and cooperated separately.

Dominic resigned before Nico could remove him.

Nico accepted the resignation.

No embrace.

No promise that thirty-one years of friendship would survive.

As Dominic reached the door, he stopped.

“I did one thing you don't know about.”

Nico looked at him.

Dominic’s voice was quiet.

“Richard Cole wrote you a letter before he died.”

Marjorie’s head snapped around.

Gavin looked up.

Nico’s eyes narrowed.

“I never received one.”

“I know.”

Dominic’s face filled with shame.

“I kept it.”

May you like

Marjorie went completely pale.

After twelve years of blaming Nico for Richard’s final bitterness, her dead husband had apparently left words none of them had ever been allowed to read.
