Chapter 12

The legal consequences were complicated because Helena had hidden her actions behind legitimate structures.
But complicated did not mean imaginary.
The civil case established unauthorized diversion of funds, misuse of fiduciary authority, forged or misleading family-office documentation, and intentional interference with Roman and Nora’s parental relationship.
Separate investigators examined the fabricated death materials and other records.
Helena’s lawyers negotiated aggressively.
Roman refused to participate in any agreement requiring Nora to remain silent.
That choice mattered to her.
For three years everyone else had controlled the story.
Nora would not lose control of it again.
The reserve accounts were frozen.
After legal review, funds traceable to Sophie’s support were transferred into an independently managed account for Sophie, with reimbursement to Nora for documented expenses and hardship subject to court-approved resolution.
Nora did not suddenly become interested in Roman’s wealth.
That almost annoyed him.
When Rebecca explained the amount Nora was entitled to claim, Nora stared at the paperwork.
“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with this.”
Roman said, “Use it.”
“For what?”
“For the last three years.”
“They’re gone.”
He had no answer.
Money could reimburse rent.
Medical bills.
Lost wages.
It could not reimburse Sophie for believing her father was buried somewhere.
It could not reimburse Nora for nights she stayed awake calculating whether food or electricity mattered more.
That realization changed how Roman thought about restitution.
He stopped trying to turn money into apology.
Instead he let Nora choose what independence looked like.
She rented a small house twenty minutes from the estate.
Not on D’Angelo property.
Roman offered security.
She accepted one discreet professional after negotiating the terms herself.
Sophie would split time gradually between the two homes under a parenting plan developed with child specialists.
No one called it custody warfare.
May you like
Roman had lost three years.
He refused to lose more by making Sophie feel like territory.
