Chapter 14

Helena ultimately lost every formal role she held in the D’Angelo family office and legitimate businesses.

Roman removed her authority permanently.

The court imposed additional financial and legal consequences through the settlement and related proceedings.

She moved out of the estate.

Not because Roman had her dragged away.

Because the house was no longer a place where she had power.

Marianne visited her once.

Roman did not ask what they discussed.

His focus had shifted.

He restructured the family office so no single relative could redirect dependent-support payments again.

Every payment involving a child required independent confirmation of receipt.

No family member could change a beneficiary’s contact information without direct verification.

Outside counsel reviewed the system.

Several older capos complained that Roman was turning family business into bureaucracy.

Roman answered:

“Good.”

He no longer trusted tradition simply because it had survived.

Nora attended one meeting regarding Sophie’s trust.

She asked more questions than everyone else combined.

Roman enjoyed that.

Afterward, Sophie ran into the conference room wearing a purple coat.

“Daddy Roman!”

Every lawyer in the room tried not to react.

Roman stood.

“Yes?”

“Mom says you have my backpack.”

Roman looked beneath the table.

He did.

Nora appeared at the door.

“You were supposed to bring it yesterday.”

Roman handed it over.

“I forgot.”

Nora stared at him.

The terrifying Roman D’Angelo had no defense.

Sophie sighed dramatically.

“Adults.”

Then she walked away.

Nora laughed.

Roman did too.

For a moment, nothing in the room felt like organized crime, stolen years, diverted money, or litigation.

It felt like two parents being corrected by a four-year-old.

Roman realized how much he wanted more ordinary problems.

May you like

He had spent his life building enough power to survive extraordinary ones.

Now ordinary looked like wealth.
