The answer came from an IT maintenance ticket.
The morning of the incident, someone requested that the staircase camera be taken offline for “network instability.”
The request used Marcella’s guest-management credentials.
The technician did not disable it.
He inspected the connection remotely and found no problem.
He closed the ticket.
Nobody told Marcella.
Nobody told Victor.
The camera remained active.
Rachel stared at the record.
“They thought it was off.”
Bianca felt cold.
That explained Victor’s face when Lorenzo ordered the footage rewound.
It explained his lunge toward the monitor.
The shove had happened where Victor believed no recording would exist.
But why shove Bianca at all?
Rachel refused to fill the gap with speculation.
More records arrived.
Marcella’s phone contained messages discussing Bianca’s hospital bag.
Not through hacked recovery.
Through lawful discovery in the marital and related proceedings.
One message from Marcella to Victor, the night before:
She keeps that bag upstairs now.
Victor:
Fine.
Marcella:
If she tries leaving before we’re ready?
Victor:
Don’t let her make another scene.
No mention of stairs.
No explicit instruction to harm her.
But a plan to stop her movement was unmistakable.
Another thread referenced the second nursery at Marcella’s house.
Victor:
Keep it ready. We may need the first week sooner than expected.
Marcella:
Without her?
A long gap.
Victor eventually answered:
If necessary.
Bianca stopped reading.
Rachel asked whether she wanted to continue.
“Yes.”
The next records came from a family-law firm in another county.
Victor had consulted them six weeks earlier.
No filing had been made.
Attorney-client privilege protected legal advice.
But billing descriptions and certain nonprivileged administrative facts established the subject of the consultation:
Post-birth emergency parenting options.
The date matched the week after Bianca said she might stay elsewhere if Victor and Marcella continued controlling her.
Victor had not started planning divorce after the staircase incident.
He had started before.
Then an outside document company produced a file accidentally attached to a routine financial disclosure.
It was not privileged because Victor had circulated it beyond counsel.
