Chapter 13

The formal exposure required no dramatic confession.
The records were enough.
Knox Executive Logistics invoices were compared with actual deliveries.
Employee schedules showed shifts that had never occurred.
Broker records documented materials billed in quantities that were never shipped.
Bank records traced part of the excess payments to Lucian-controlled accounts.
Valeria’s messages established that she knew irregular billing was being used to cover Lucian’s financial problems.
Her cooperation did not erase her role.
It clarified it.
Luca’s attorneys, responding to formal inquiries involving payments to his companies, produced loan and settlement records showing that funds received from Lucian were debt repayments.
That independently confirmed the airport documents were financial, not fragrance formulas.
Nobody needed Luca to become helpful.
His records protected his own interests.
That made them more credible.
The atelier’s formula logs confirmed no First Light master file had been transferred.
Helen finally received permission to resume development with new verified materials.
The fragrance itself had survived.
The family around it had not.
Dominic met with the atelier board.
He acknowledged his own oversight failures.
Vendor approvals would no longer pass because somebody was engaged to him, related to him, or carried a family-associated name.
Dual approval became mandatory above defined thresholds.
Vendor ownership disclosures became standard.
Margaret sat in the back of the room.
Afterward she said, “Elise would’ve liked that.”
Dominic looked at her.
“The paperwork?”
“The fact that you finally admitted you need it.”
He laughed for the first time in weeks.
Valeria signed a formal cooperation agreement regarding the internal investigation through counsel.
She returned records and accepted that civil recovery claims could include her.
Lucian refused the final voluntary resolution offered by the atelier.
His attorneys disputed several amounts.
That was his right.
It also meant formal claims would proceed.
Rebecca closed the file in front of Dominic.
“The board has enough.”
“For what?”
“To act.”
Dominic looked at the engagement ring Valeria had returned weeks earlier.
It remained in Rebecca’s safe.
He had not wanted it in his house.
“What happens to her?”
“Different question.”
Dominic nodded.
Lucian’s financial conduct belonged to accountants and lawyers now.
May you like
Valeria’s betrayal belonged to Dominic.
What he did with that could not be delegated.
