Chapter 13

Alessia called every capo Garrett had implicated.

Not to demand loyalty.

To apologize.

Some accepted easily.

Others did not.

Nicholas Dane stared at her across the council table.

“You believed I might sell you out.”

“Yes.”

His jaw tightened.

“That’s not nothing.”

“I know.”

Alessia did not threaten him into forgiveness.

Power shifted again.

Not through fear.

Through the fact that everyone had watched Alessia admit she could be wrong.

Garrett lost the story he needed.

The full reconstruction of the gala circulated privately among the senior family.

Miriam falling.

Evelyn’s insult.

Alessia ordering Garrett to kneel.

His laughter.

The violence.

Then the evidence of planning.

Neutral men who had hesitated began stepping away from Garrett.

No purge was necessary.

He simply stopped being useful.

Then financial reviews of Garrett’s household authority found no massive theft.

That surprised Alessia.

He had access to money.

He did not steal it.

His goal had genuinely been control and revenge, not wealth.

That made him more dangerous.

And, strangely, easier to understand.

Evelyn reacted differently.

She began calling old allies.

She insisted Garrett had become weak.

She claimed Alessia manipulated him with fabricated letters.

Then Dante intercepted nothing.

Because Alessia refused illegal surveillance.

Instead, Evelyn made her next move publicly.

She arrived at the Carbone house during a family dinner.

No invitation.

No fear.

Her voice carried through the foyer.

“You think taking my son from me ends this?”

Alessia rose from the table.

Miriam’s hand touched her wrist.

A reminder.

Alessia breathed once.

Then walked toward Evelyn.

No violence.

No raised voice.

“You lost him yourself.”

Evelyn’s eyes flashed.

“You sound exactly like your father.”

Alessia stopped.

That had once been an insult capable of moving her.

Not anymore.

“Maybe.”

She looked directly at Evelyn.

“But I’m ending what he started.”

Evelyn laughed.

“How?”

Alessia handed her an envelope.

Inside was notice that every Lawson-connected role, residence privilege and family-business access tied to Alessia’s marriage would end through proper process.

Evelyn read it.

Her face changed.

Then she smiled.

“You still don't know what your husband kept.”

Alessia’s breathing slowed.

May you like

Evelyn leaned closer.

“Ask Garrett about the recording of your mother.”
