Chapter 13

Victor lost every role inside Sofia’s household.

No unsupervised visits.

No nursery access.

No instructions to staff.

No decisions involving the babies.

He called it humiliation.

I called it boundaries.

“You are punishing me through my grandchildren.”

“No.”

Sofia answered.

“They are not your access point to me.”

Victor looked at her.

He had not yet learned that adult daughters are allowed to set rules fathers dislike.

Bianca had no nursery access except when Sofia invited her.

That happened rarely.

Good.

Julian moved into the guest suite.

Same hospital building first.

Then separate rooms at home.

Not thrown out.

Not restored.

He became useful.

Night bottles when Sofia asked.

Laundry.

Food.

Holding whichever baby she handed him.

Nothing assumed.

At first he asked permission for everything.

Sofia found it irritating.

Good.

Repair is not always elegant.

Marcus? No Marcus here. Need keep names. Victor's old household captain Elias voluntarily returned the infant carrier to storage. Sofia did something better.

“Get rid of it.”

Elias looked surprised.

“It’s new.”

“I know.”

No artifact museum.

No shrine to betrayal.

The carrier disappeared.

The blue ribbon did not.

Sofia kept it.

Not as evidence.

As a reminder.

She tied it around the handle of an empty drawer in the nursery.

I asked why.

“So I remember I said no.”

That mattered.

The ribbon had been intended to mark which baby adults would remove.

Now it marked her refusal.

Her meaning.

Her choice.

I looked at my daughter.

“You want me to take it down?”

“No.”

Good.

Not my decision.

The three bassinets stayed side by side until the babies outgrew them.

No separate nursery.

No “Bianca’s boy.”

No branch allocation.

Just three exhausted newborns waking each other every two hours.

May you like

Beautifully inconvenient.

Real.
