Chapter 12

Bianca asked whether I had found Elias.
I told her yes.
Nothing else.
She nodded.
Good.
No entitlement to the reunion.
Our engagement remained broken.
Relationship unclear.
She accepted that.
Months passed.
She stopped trying to explain herself.
Started changing behavior.
She apologized to Mila directly.
Specific.
No excuses.
Mila did not forgive her.
Also fine.
Bianca moved her mother’s housing holdings out of any employment-linked structure.
Interesting.
She could not undo threatening Celia’s mother.
She could remove the mechanism.
That mattered.
Then she confronted Nathan publicly within her own family.
Not for me.
For herself.
She said:
“You taught me that keeping powerful people comfortable was the same as keeping peace.”
Good.
Nathan answered:
“It often is.”
Bianca replied:
“Then it isn’t peace.”
Better.
I heard secondhand.
Did not reward her.
Change done for applause is unstable.
Elias met me again.
Then Rose.
That was harder.
My mother apologized.
He listened.
Did not hug her.
She accepted that.
He asked:
“Why did you believe Nathan?”
Rose answered:
“Because believing him meant I didn’t have to choose between you and Roman.”
Elias looked at me.
Then back.
“You chose anyway.”
Silence.
Accurate.
Avoidance is still choice.
Rose cried.
He didn’t comfort her.
May you like
Also okay.
Family healing is not theater.
