Chapter 9

The tension in the dining hall had shifted from explosive violence to a nervous, electric apprehension. The bright, cinematic lighting illuminated the sweat beading on the foreheads of the capos as they waited for the Boss to address them again. Alessandro remained standing at the head of the table, his hand resting gently on the back of Sophie’s oversized chair. The tailored dark dress shirt pulled tightly across his chest as he took a slow, deep breath, surveying his lieutenants.
"Let what happened today," Alessandro began, his deep, raspy voice echoing with a cold, terrifying promise, "serve as an absolute, undeniable mandate. My daughter is the sole heir to this empire. She is an extension of my own blood, my own flesh. Anyone who disrespects her, questions her place, or fails to protect her with their lives, will suffer a fate far worse than the one I just handed to my own aunt."
"We understand, Boss. Completely," the oldest capo at the table agreed quickly, his American accent laced with deep respect and fear. "It won't happen again. We swear it."
"See that it doesn't," Alessandro whispered, the measured pause driving the threat home.
The heavy double doors of the dining hall swung open once more.
Elias, Alessandro’s deeply trusted underboss, strode into the room. The forty-year-old man wore a dark suit, his fair, rosy skin pale and drawn tight with urgent tension. He completely ignored the ruined food on the floor and the nervous stares of the guests, walking with rapid, purposeful strides directly toward Alessandro.
Elias stopped a few feet away, leaning in close so his words wouldn't carry across the long table.
"Boss, we have a major problem," Elias whispered, his voice incredibly tight.
Alessandro’s cold, sharp eyes flicked toward his second-in-command. The charming, romantic look of his neatly styled hair and trimmed beard now framed the face of an apex predator sensing a trap.
"Speak," Alessandro murmured quietly.
"Marcus just secured Bianca in the basement," Elias reported softly. "But before he left the cell, she started screaming something. She wasn't just being cruel today, Alessandro. It was a distraction."
Alessandro’s jaw locked. The intricate tattoos on his neck shifted visibly as the muscles tightened. "A distraction from what?"
"She was stalling you," Elias explained, his eyes darting nervously toward the large, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the estate's sprawling front lawns. "She knew you had a council meeting. She knew if she caused a scene with Sophie, you would intervene personally and pull the interior guards away from the main security hub."
"Why would she need the security hub blind?" Alessandro asked, his voice dropping to a lethal, freezing whisper.
"Because she sold the bypass codes to the Rossi family," Elias said, the terrifying truth finally spilling out. "Boss... Bianca didn't just hate your wife. She blamed her for your brother's death years ago. She has been feeding information to our enemies for months in exchange for a promise that they would put her son in charge of the syndicate."
Alessandro went perfectly, dangerously still. The puzzle pieces clicked into place with horrifying clarity. Bianca’s unprecedented audacity today wasn't just arrogance; it was a calculated move to draw him out into the open while the perimeter was compromised.

"Are the gates secure?" Alessandro demanded, his voice a low, vibrating hum.
"We lost contact with the front gate guards two minutes ago," Elias answered grimly, his hand drifting toward the concealed weapon inside his jacket.
