Chapter 15

Elias eventually returned to limited advisory work.

Not because time passed.

Because behavior changed.

He spent two years doing ordinary operations without recruiting sympathy.

He apologized to Maya directly.

She accepted the words.

Not friendship.

Enough.

Then he told me something I did not expect.

“Your father asked mine to stay beside you if he died first.”

I stared.

“Did you know?”

“Only recently. Found a letter.”

Another dead-man instruction.

I almost groaned.

Elias laughed.

“I know.”

The letter did not promise title.

No seat.

No inheritance.

Just:

Dominic listens poorly when afraid. Don’t let him turn fear into isolation.

I read it twice.

My father knew me.

Unfortunately.

Elias said:

“I turned it into something bigger because I wanted bigger.”

That was the cleanest confession he ever gave.

Good.

We kept the letter.

No shrine.

May you like

No governance.

Just a reminder.
