Chapter 1

The grand banquet hall of the Moretti estate was an absolute triumph of modern luxury, bathed in bright, cinematic video colors that brought every detail into stunning relief. The lighting was meticulously designed—natural and crisp, utterly devoid of any dull, muddy, or yellow tint. The radiant illumination perfectly highlighted the fair, rosy skin of the exclusively white American guests who filled the room. Crisp American accents layered over the gentle clinking of crystal champagne flutes, creating a sophisticated hum of high-stakes socializing. This was no ordinary gathering; it was a massive Mafia-family banquet, and the tension simmering beneath the designer suits and elegant gowns was palpable.

At the far end of the sprawling hall, standing near an ornate mahogany bar, was Vincent Moretti. At thirty-two years old, he was the undisputed head of the syndicate. He was as handsome as a classic movie star, possessing a deeply masculine, distinctly Mafia Boss-like presence that demanded immediate submission. His thick, slightly wavy dark hair was naturally slicked back, though a few loose strands fell stubbornly over his forehead, lending him a charming, almost romantic look that sharply contrasted with his lethal reputation.

"The eastern shipments cleared customs without a single issue, Boss," a senior capo reported, holding a glass of bourbon. "The port authorities didn't even blink. We own the docks."

Vincent did not smile. His angular face, defined by a high-bridged nose, a sharply defined jawline, and extremely short, neatly trimmed stubble, remained entirely impassive. His cold, sharp, intimidating eyes scanned the room. He wore a tailored dark suit, but his dress shirt was unbuttoned at the chest, revealing the fair, rosy skin beneath. Refined, sharp artistic tattoos crept up his neck and decorated his hands and fingers. The negative space in the ink prevented the designs from looking dense, instead giving him an elegant, dangerously attractive aura.

"Good," Vincent replied. His voice was deep, slightly raspy, and naturally authoritative. He spoke slowly, utilizing controlled pauses between his words, keeping his volume deliberately low. "But do not... become complacent. The moment you believe... you are untouchable... is the moment you bleed."

"Understood, Vincent. We have extra men on rotation tonight just in case," the capo assured him, his American accent quick and respectful. "The perimeter is completely locked down by our best guys."

"Ensure that they stay awake," Vincent murmured, his measured, cold, and dangerous tone sending a visible shiver down the capo's spine. "I will not tolerate mistakes in my own home."

Vincent’s gaze drifted slowly across the vast expanse of the banquet hall, passing over the bodyguards in their professional suits, until his eyes settled on the main family table at the center of the room. Despite the ruthless empire he commanded, the safety of his unique, fiercely loyal family was the only thing that truly mattered. But even under his watchful eye, a poison was beginning to fester at the heart of the celebration.
