Chapter 1

The grand ballroom was awash in bright, vivid colors, illuminated by flawless, natural cinematic lighting that carried absolutely no trace of a dull yellow tint. Every polished marble tile and crystal chandelier reflected a clean, brilliant white light, casting a sophisticated glow over the high-society gathering. The room was meticulously arranged for a lavish mafia wedding, featuring towering floral arrangements, elegantly upholstered benches, and rows of pristine champagne tables leading toward a raised wedding platform. The guests, all white American adults, moved with an air of untouchable wealth, their fair and rosy skin radiant under the immaculate lighting. Sharp, clear American accents blended into a steady hum of polite, guarded conversation.
At the center of the room stood Cassian Morelli, a man who commanded the space simply by existing within it. At thirty-four years old, the head of the Morelli organization was powerful, deeply masculine, and effortlessly intimidating. He was as handsome as a classic movie star, his angular face and strong jawline framed by a short, moderately thick full beard that was neatly trimmed close to his fair, rosy skin, giving him a mature, ruggedly handsome look. He wore a perfectly tailored dark three-piece suit, a crisp dress shirt, a heavy family signet ring, an expensive wristwatch, and polished leather shoes. He held a crystal flute of champagne, his presence exuding the quiet, lethal authority of a veteran Mafia boss.
Suddenly, the polished tranquility of the ballroom was shattered.
A tiny figure burst through the sea of tailored suits and elegant gowns. It was a three-year-old girl, her fair, rosy cheeks flushed with frantic energy. She wore a beautifully detailed dusty-rose wedding dress and delicate little flats. A small, beaded purse bounced against her hip, and a bright pink child’s smartwatch was strapped to her wrist. She raced across the crowded marble floor, dodging the legs of hardened capos and oblivious guests, her bright eyes locked entirely on the towering Mafia boss.
Before Cassian’s bodyguards could even register the sudden movement, the little girl crashed directly into him. She wrapped both of her small arms tightly around Cassian’s tailored legs, hugging him with a desperate, fierce adoration.
She looked straight up at him, her bright eyes shining with absolute certainty.
Cassian froze completely. The crystal champagne glass slipped from his fingers. It hit the marble floor and shattered into a hundred glittering pieces, the sharp sound echoing through the sudden silence of the immediate crowd.

Across the room, standing near the towering floral arrangements, Elena Rivers froze in absolute horror. At thirty-two, Cassian’s former fiancée was breathtakingly beautiful, wearing an elegant wedding-guest gown, sparkling earrings, a delicate bracelet, and high heels. Her fair, rosy skin paled as she watched her daughter cling to the most dangerous man in the city.
"Daddy Cassian!" Isla shouted, her sweet American accent cutting through the dead silence, her voice practically vibrating with excitement. "Mommy said you didn’t even know I existed!"
