Chapter 10

Dominic had planned for Rocco to discover the truth.
Not on that day.
Not through Maeve.
But eventually.
The automatic email proved it.
Months earlier, Dominic created a dead-man switch around the entire scheme.
Deeds.
Payments.
Recordings.
Rocco’s authorization.
The trust showing Rocco as beneficiary.
Every piece arranged in a sequence that made one story easy to believe:
Rocco Castellano ordered a neighborhood cleared.
His nephew carried it out.
The powerful boss took the land.
Dominic had deliberately structured the scheme so Rocco could never remove him without risking himself.
That was the major betrayal.
The money was not Dominic’s insurance.
The evidence was.
Rocco sat across from his nephew in the silent club office.
“You weren't just saving the club.”
Dominic’s jaw tightened.
“I was.”
“No.”
Rocco’s voice remained almost gentle.
“You were making sure I could never replace you afterward.”
Dominic’s eyes hardened.
Years of resentment finally surfaced.
“I watched you replace people my whole life.”
Rocco said nothing.
Dominic continued.
“Managers. Captains. Lawyers. Men who gave you twenty years and disappeared from the room after one mistake.”
His breathing grew heavier.
“I saved this club. I fixed Frank’s debt. I built the district. And I knew the second you disliked how I did it, you'd strip everything away and call it discipline.”
Rocco looked at the missing badge on the desk.
Dominic gave a bitter smile.
“You proved me right in thirty seconds.”
For the first time, his motive became complete.
Dominic wanted money.
He wanted status.
But more than either, he wanted to become impossible to remove.
Rocco’s culture of absolute control had created a man who believed the only safety came from possessing leverage over the boss himself.
“You used Maeve’s family.”
Dominic’s gaze flickered.
“They were blocking the project.”
“She’s three.”
“She wasn't part of the plan.”
“You called her street trash.”
Dominic looked away.
Silence stretched.
Rocco saw shame.
Small.
Buried beneath pride.
Still there.
Dominic whispered:
“I didn't know who she was.”
Rocco’s voice hardened.
“That makes it worse.”
His nephew looked back.
Rocco placed the scheduled-email printout between them.
“You built this because you thought fear was the only thing I respected.”
Dominic’s expression became almost defiant.
“Was I wrong?”
Rocco stared at him.
Then something changed.
The anger left his face.
Dominic noticed.
That frightened him.
Rocco reached for his phone.
“Samuel.”
Dominic leaned forward.
“What are you doing?”
Rocco did not look at him.
“Send the archive.”
Dominic froze.
“All of it?”
“All of it.”
“You'll destroy yourself.”
Rocco finally met his eyes.
“Maybe.”
Dominic’s breathing stopped.
May you like
Rocco’s voice remained quiet.
“But you don't own me anymore.”
