Emma did not file for divorce immediately.
She filed for legal separation and temporary financial orders.
At sixty-nine, with hip recovery and thirty years of marriage, decisions were not simple.
The house belonged jointly to Emma and Daniel.

Retirement accounts.
Daniel’s pension rights.
Emma’s modest teacher retirement.
No secret fortune.
No property empire.
She asked for temporary exclusive use of the house.
Daniel did not oppose while criminal no-contact conditions remained.
Then bills.
He continued paying mortgage from joint account under temporary order.
No financial freeze.
No punitive cutoff.
Emma met with attorney Rachel Sloan.
I did not attend.
Not my marriage.
She told me afterward:
“I thought leaving at this age meant admitting I wasted thirty years.”

“That staying because of the first thirty years is not a plan for the next ten.”

Then Tyler.
He moved into Emma’s house temporarily.
Not because she needed a man there.

Then Daniel requested mediation through family counsel.
