Chapter 8

The metadata on Vanessa’s photographs led to a cloud folder.
The folder belonged to Ethan.
Inside were more files.
Not just Tobin.
Alessandra.
Photographs of her entering council meetings.
Leaving late.
Standing beside armed bodyguards.
Arguing with hotel executives.
One clip showed her shoving a drunk associate away from a private table months earlier.
Another showed her slamming a door during a council dispute.
Individually, none meant much.
Together, they built a portrait.
Cold.
Absent.
Violent.
Powerful enough to frighten people.
Alessandra stared at the screen.
Her chief attorney looked uncomfortable.
“This was being assembled.”
“For what?”
“We don't know.”
Then they found a draft statement.
Not signed.
Prepared in Gavin’s name.
It described a household controlled by an “increasingly volatile spouse.”
It referred to Tobin being exposed to dangerous associates.
It described Gavin as the parent trying to create a stable environment.
Alessandra’s lips parted slightly.
There it was.
Not enough for the full picture.
Enough to make her stomach turn.
Gavin had been building a version of their marriage where he was trapped beside a dangerous Mafia boss.
A version with enough truth to sound believable.
Long meetings.
Security teams.
Arguments.
Her temper.
All real.
The lies lived around them.
Then Alessandra saw the final paragraph.
If separation became necessary, Gavin intended to request temporary primary custody of Tobin.
Her hand stopped.
The photographs of Tobin in the garage suddenly meant something else.
Her attorney spoke quietly.
“They could say you left him there.”
Alessandra looked toward the monitor.
“No.”
A pause.
“They needed someone to believe I did.”
Then her chief of security entered carrying another discovery.
A hidden camera had been found above the private elevator.
May you like
It had not been installed by hotel security.
It was pointed directly at the exact spot where Alessandra confronted Gavin.
