Chapter 4 - BIANCA’S REASON

Bianca finally gave Rocco her explanation through attorneys.

She called what happened “a misguided attempt to build family structure.”

Rocco agreed to hear her directly once.

They met in a sitting room with both attorneys present.

Bianca looked composed again.

“You have no idea what it’s like raising a daughter who walks into this family knowing she will always come second.”

Rocco watched her.

“Second to whom?”

“Your son.”

“Noah is three.”

“That doesn’t change what his name means.”

There was the real wound.

Bianca had spent two years watching the Bellandi family treat Noah as the unquestioned future center of the household.

At dinners, older relatives brought him gifts.

Staff knew his routines.

Family members called him “the little boss” as a joke.

Ava entered the same rooms as Bianca’s daughter.

Loved by Rocco, yes.

But not Bellandi by blood.

Bianca had become increasingly obsessed with the difference.

“I wanted Ava to understand she belongs here too.”

Rocco’s expression hardened.

“You taught that by putting a toddler outside her bedroom.”

“I was correcting the balance.”

“No. You created another imbalance.”

“You don’t understand because nobody has ever made you feel temporary.”

Rocco almost responded.

Then stopped.

There was truth inside that sentence.

Not enough truth to excuse anything.

But enough to understand motive.

Bianca feared that after marriage she and Ava would remain guests inside a world organized around Rocco and Noah.

Instead of demanding healthier boundaries, she created a hierarchy where Noah was placed beneath Ava.

She believed humiliation could manufacture equality.

Rocco stood.

Bianca stared at him.

“That’s it?”

“Yes.”

“You’re ending two years over one mistake?”

Rocco looked at her.

“One mistake happens once.”

He placed the battery receipts on the table.

Bianca’s face changed.

Rocco continued.

“I haven’t decided everything yet.”

Hope flickered.

Then he finished.

“But I’ve decided there will be no wedding while children in my house are afraid to sleep.”
