Chapter 6

Dominic returned twice that week.
Each time his advice was the same.
Settle.
Pay Bianca.
Keep the footage private.
Stop talking to staff.
“Why stop talking to staff?” Alessandro asked.
Dominic looked annoyed.
“Because they gossip.”
“Rosalie doesn’t.”
“She’s a maid.”
The sentence changed Alessandro’s expression.
Dominic noticed.
“I didn’t mean—”
“Yes, you did.”
Alessandro had heard versions of that sentence his entire life.
Staff did not know enough.
Drivers only drove.
Housekeepers only cleaned.
Nannies only watched children.
People at the edges of powerful families were treated as invisible until somebody needed a witness.
Rosalie had seen more than most of the men sitting at Alessandro’s business table.
Later that evening she remembered something else.
Dominic had visited the bridal terrace four days before the wedding.
“He asked Michael whether the camera there captured the vanity area.”
Alessandro looked up.
“Dominic?”
“Yes.”
“What did Michael say?”
“That the angle missed part of it.”
“And then the camera was moved.”
Rosalie nodded.
Third clue.
Alessandro called Michael.
The security director confirmed it.
Dominic had personally asked for “better event coverage.”
The explanation was not impossible.
A high-profile wedding required security.
But Dominic was not responsible for cameras.
Michael was.
Alessandro asked whether Dominic had requested changes anywhere else.
“No.”
“Only that one?”
“Yes.”
The bridal terrace.
The exact place where Bianca’s confrontation with Livia occurred.
Three clues now existed.
The camera.
The pre-wedding litigation attorney.
Dominic’s repeated pressure to settle before anyone investigated.

Alessandro still did not know how they connected.
But they connected.
