Chapter 6

Lucia discovered Marco’s unauthorized trips two months earlier.
She had arrived at the estate before sunrise after Ethan called her because he could not sleep.
Marco returned in one of Silvano’s SUVs at 4:30 a.m.
He claimed he had been helping with a business matter.
Lucia did not believe him.
Weeks later she saw him again.
Different vehicle.
Same hour.
She threatened to tell Silvano.
Marco asked her not to.
Then Lucia made the mistake that tied both betrayals together.
She asked him for a favor.
“I needed somebody who could control the vehicle system without involving household security.”
Silvano stared at her.
“So you traded silence for help.”
Lucia’s voice became defensive.
“I wasn't protecting what he was doing.”
“You were using it.”
“That isn't the same thing.”
“It is when you keep it from me.”
Lucia stood.
“You want to act like you're the only betrayed person in this?”
“No.”
Silvano remained seated.
“Ethan and Clara are.”
That stopped her.
Lucia sat again.
She admitted the plan.
She would take both children to the SUV.
Marco would start the climate system remotely.
They would remain inside for several minutes.
Lucia would then raise an alarm.
The resulting chaos would create staff statements, a medical check and a documented lapse in estate supervision.
She planned to use it in her guardianship petition.
Silvano’s attorney looked genuinely stunned.
“You included a four-month-old baby to make the incident more convincing?”
Lucia looked ashamed.
“I thought the car was cool.”
Silvano's voice dropped.
“You used my daughter as evidence.”
Lucia covered her face.
For the first time since the rescue, Silvano believed she understood what she had done.
But knowing why Lucia cooperated still left Marco’s secret unexplained.
The transportation review finally produced a destination from toll records Marco had forgotten to erase.

Every unauthorized trip ended near the same warehouse in Commerce, California.
A warehouse connected to one of Silvano’s own companies.
