Chapter 8 - ANTONIO OPENS THE HOUSE

The decision everyone warned Antonio against came eight days after the banquet.
He invited outsiders in.
Not rivals.
Not other family bosses.
A child psychologist.
A family-law attorney representing Lucas independently.
And, after receiving legal advice, investigators who specialized in child endangerment.
The Bellaforte estate had never voluntarily opened itself to scrutiny.
Antonio knew exactly what could happen.
Questions about weapons.
Money.
Employees.
Businesses.
People associated with him.
His own decisions.
His attorney explained it plainly.
“If you make a formal complaint against Lavinia and Damian, you do not control where the investigation stops.”
Antonio looked through the glass office doors at Lucas playing with blocks on the floor.
“I know.”
“You may create exposure for yourself.”
“I know.”
“You cannot open the door halfway.”
That was the point.
For decades, the Bellafortes survived by keeping every problem internal.
That rule had protected Lucas’s abusers.
Antonio signed the complaint.
He also provided household camera footage voluntarily and authorized staff to speak without retaliation.
By evening, Lavinia knew.
She came to his office shaking with rage.
“You brought police into this family over a meal?”
Antonio looked at her.
“I brought them in because my son told me he gets punished whenever I leave.”
“You are destroying everything your father built.”
There it was again.
Vittorio.
Antonio opened the desk drawer and removed one of his father’s letters.
He placed it between them.
Lavinia read the first lines.
Her face changed.
Only slightly.
But Antonio saw it.
“You remember this.”
She put the letter down.
“Your father became sentimental when he got sick.”
Antonio’s chest tightened.
Not denial.
Confirmation.
“You told me he ordered those punishments.”
“He wanted you strong.”
“That letter says the opposite.”
“He did not understand what leadership required.”
Antonio stared at her.
For the first time, Lavinia had admitted the rules were hers.
But she still believed the family belonged to the version of Vittorio she had created.
May you like
Antonio had made his irreversible choice.
Now outsiders were going to determine which version survived evidence.
