Chapter 24 - The house sells
The house went under contract six weeks after listing.
Price:
$646,000.
Slightly below appraisal.
Inspection found:
Minor roof flashing issue.
Old water heater.
Basement stair railing not up to current preferred safety standard.
That last line made Leah laugh darkly.
We repaired it.
Closing net after mortgage, costs, agreed family debt:
Approximately $278,000.
Property settlement allocation after business/retirement offsets gave:
Me roughly $168,000 from house proceeds.
Graham about $110,000.
Not because I “won” house.
Because he retained more business value.
Then retirement transfer:
Approximately $42,000 from Graham’s qualified account to mine after equalization of marital portions.
Savings/investments:
Adjusted.
No spousal support.
Our incomes were similar enough, and I returned to full work.
No children.
No child support.
Clean.
Then I rented an apartment for six months.
Leah said:
“You’re going from a four-bedroom house to twelve hundred square feet.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
