Chapter 11

Alessio did not summon Vincent.

That would have been the old response.

Instead he watched.

For three days, Vincent behaved exactly as he always had.

He attended meetings.

He asked about Ruby.

He expressed outrage over what Claudia had done.

He even suggested Marco should be permanently removed from Ventresca business.

Too quickly.

Alessio let him talk.

Meanwhile Samuel and Michael—the estate security manager—reconstructed the dates from Isabella’s footage.

Vincent appeared at five unauthorized meetings.

Not every meeting.

Only the important ones.

The ones involving men with influence.

Claudia found clients.

Marco managed logistics.

Vincent gave the scheme credibility.

He could quietly confirm to outsiders that Claudia’s promises were “understood.”

That one word was enough.

People paid.

People cooperated.

People assumed Alessio knew.

Vincent never needed Alessio’s signature.

He only needed his silence.

Marco broke first.

When Alessio showed him one still photograph of Vincent entering the greenhouse, Marco’s face changed.

“You found the cards.”

Alessio said nothing.

Marco sat down.

“He told us you’d never notice.”

“Vincent?”

“Yes.”

“What did he get?”

“A percentage.”

“Only money?”

Marco looked uncertain.

“He wanted influence.”

Vincent had spent years watching Alessio make every final decision.

He was respected but never central.

Claudia resented being treated as family without authority.

Their frustrations aligned.

Marco saw profit and joined.

Isabella disrupted everything.

“She was going to tell you,” Marco said.

“Why didn’t she?”

Marco looked away.

“She became sick again.”

Alessio’s hands tightened.

“Did any of you hurt her?”

Marco looked genuinely horrified.

“No.”

Alessio watched him carefully.

“If I discover otherwise—”

He stopped himself.

Threats would not create truth.

Marco understood anyway.

“We didn’t touch Isabella.”

“Then what did Vincent do?”

“He convinced Claudia to wait.”

“For what?”

“For Isabella to become too sick to fight.”

Alessio stared at him.

That cruelty required no weapon.

They had simply waited for a dying woman to lose strength.

Then continued.

Alessio stood.

Marco looked up.

“What happens now?”

“You tell me everything.”

“And if I do?”

“You still answer for what you did.”

May you like

Marco’s face fell.

For once, Alessio offered no bargain disguised as forgiveness.
