Chapter 6

Connor’s sudden intervention sent a ripple of unease through the sunlit patio. The ten-year-old boy, dressed in his polo shirt and shorts, looked incredibly small against the backdrop of the massive, wealthy American estate. He walked directly toward Grace’s mother, bypassing his own family members.

"Connor, what are you doing?" Sabrina snapped, her voice sharp and warning. "Go back inside the house this instant."

Connor ignored her. He stopped just a few feet away from Grace’s mother. He slowly raised the tablet, holding it out toward the woman in the medical scrubs. His hands were shaking visibly.

"I recorded it," Connor whispered, his voice trembling but determined. "I recorded everything they just did to Grace."

The collective confidence of the wealthy relatives shattered instantly. The mocking smiles vanished from their rosy faces. In the age of social media, indisputable video evidence of an elderly woman and a wealthy socialite physically pinning down and assaulting a weeping child was a weapon of mass destruction to their pristine public image.

Sabrina’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated panic. The reality of her situation crashed down upon her.

"Give me that tablet, Connor!" Sabrina shrieked, abandoning all pretense of elegance.

She lunged forward with violent speed, her arms reaching out to snatch the electronic device from the boy's hands.

Grace’s mother reacted with the reflexes of a woman used to chaos in an emergency room. She stepped forward and aggressively thrust her arm out, completely blocking Sabrina’s path. Her forearm collided heavily with Sabrina’s chest, shoving the thirty-nine-year-old woman back for a second time.

"Touch him, and I will break your arm," Grace’s mother growled, her American accent dripping with lethal intent.

Sabrina stumbled backward, her chest heaving, her eyes darting between the angry mother and the digital tablet.

Grace’s mother turned to the ten-year-old boy. She gently reached out and took the tablet from his hands, securing it firmly under her arm. "Thank you, Connor. You are a very brave boy for doing this."

Connor didn't look relieved. In fact, the terror on his fair, rosy face seemed to deepen. He took a quick, nervous glance over his shoulder at his Grandmother, who was staring at him with a look of absolute, murderous fury.

Connor stepped even closer to Grace’s mother. He leaned in, ensuring that Sabrina and the Grandmother could not hear what he was about to say.

"You need to take it and leave right now," Connor said. His voice was a terrified, urgent whisper that made the blood freeze in the mother's veins. He looked up into her eyes, his own eyes wide with a horrific secret. "The first video isn't the worst one."
