The Romano organization stopped discussing “heirs.”
Not because succession disappeared.
Because premature certainty created monsters.
Leadership would be selected from qualified adults when necessary.
Family mattered.
Experience mattered.
Trust mattered.
Disability did not automatically disqualify anyone from having a voice.
Blood did not automatically qualify anyone to lead.
Caleb attended some family dinners.
Skipped others.
Never command meetings unless he wanted to observe.
He liked the horse-property reports best.
Eventually he began helping oversee the estate stables.
Not as charity.
He was good at routine.
Not magical.
Not savant.
Just good.
He remembered which workers followed care schedules and which cut corners.
