Domenico did not forgive Helena because she confessed.
Confession was not repair.
He removed her from every household role involving Emma.
No authority over staff.
No access to school records.
No ability to issue childcare instructions.
No unsupervised time with Emma.
Helena accepted the restrictions until the last one.
“You think I would hurt her?”
Domenico looked at his aunt.
“I think you already did.”
She flinched.
“You never touched her.”
He continued.
“You helped someone teach my daughter that marriage meant losing her room, losing access to me, and eventually losing her home.”
Helena looked away.
“You don’t need to leave bruises to make a child afraid of being replaced.”
That sentence came from Dr. Whitaker.
Domenico had learned to listen.
Bianca’s situation became more formal.
Police reviewed the reception footage and witness statements.
She faced misdemeanor battery allegations related to Helena and the physical contact with Emma, along with a broader child-welfare review concerning her conduct.
Her lawyer continued arguing that Domenico’s threat made him equally dangerous.
The prosecutor did not treat the words casually.
Neither did Domenico.
He provided a statement acknowledging exactly what he said.
No excuses.
He explained the context.
He did not pretend context erased the language.
Ultimately, no criminal threat charge was filed, but the temporary no-contact order remained while the related case proceeded.
Ethan asked him whether that bothered him.
“No.”
“You’re legally prohibited from contacting the woman you already don’t want to contact.”
Domenico almost smiled.
“It’s survivable.”
Emma was doing better.
Her room had been unpacked.
Not redesigned.
Not enlarged.
Simply restored.
Domenico helped badly.
He put three dresses in the wrong drawer and somehow lost a stuffed elephant inside a box containing shoes.
Emma found this hilarious.
For the first time since the reception, she began entering rooms without asking whether she was allowed to stay.
