The independent review produced no finding that Emma should be removed from Domenico.
It did produce criticism.
Security staff had too much informal authority.
Household policies were unwritten.
Senior relatives could countermand nannies.
Employees often assumed that anyone carrying the Bellandi name spoke for Domenico.
That system had allowed Bianca to create rules without authorization.
It had also allowed Helena to help her.
Then the review found the document Domenico had not known existed.
A household-transition memorandum.
Four pages.
Prepared three months earlier.
It described Bianca’s expected role after marriage.
Emma’s schedule.
Second-floor access.
Childcare authority.
Formal-event rules.
The planned bedroom move.
The document was unsigned.
But the metadata showed it had been created on Helena’s personal computer.
Domenico felt physically cold.
Helena had told him she attended one design meeting.
This was not one meeting.
This was planning.
The oldest draft predated Bianca’s first email to Emma’s school.
Helena had been working on the household restructuring before Bianca began describing Emma as overly attached.
That changed the chronology.
Domenico had assumed Bianca developed the idea and Helena tolerated it.
The documents suggested the opposite direction was possible.
Ethan warned him.
“Metadata tells us where the file originated. It doesn’t tell us who typed every sentence.”
“I know.”
“Don’t jump ahead.”
“I know.”
But another staff statement arrived the same afternoon.
Helena’s former personal assistant remembered being told to research “traditional household arrangements after remarriage when a widower has a young daughter.”
Not by Bianca.
By Helena.
The request came five months before the reception.
A month before Bianca ever proposed remodeling the second floor.
Domenico looked back at the text messages.
He’ll never agree if we present it as removing Emma.
Then don’t present it that way.
The sentence felt different now.
Helena had not merely agreed with Bianca.
She had taught her how to get around Domenico.
The next morning Helena requested a meeting.
This time she did not ask to come home.

“I think,” Ethan said, “she’s finally ready to tell you what she actually did.”
