Chapter 10

Genevieve stood completely still.

The room seemed to move around her.

Adrian did not apologize.

He adjusted his jacket.

That small gesture made him look even more contemptuous.

“You made your choice.”

Genevieve stared.

“You told me she had heard the council.”

“She had.”

“You told me she would tell Domenico everything.”

“She might.”

“You told me to get the dinosaur.”

“Yes.”

Her voice dropped.

“You knew I would punish her.”

Adrian smiled faintly.

“I knew who you were.”

The words cut.

Genevieve’s hand trembled.

Adrian continued.

“You spent my whole life telling me softness was shame.”

His eyes moved toward Lily.

“Then you proved it.”

Domenico watched the mother absorb the son she had created.

But the recording was not finished.

Matteo advanced the clip.

Lucian and Adrian were alone now.

No Genevieve.

No capos.

Lucian asked:

“When your mother challenges Domenico, where do your men stand?”

Adrian:

“Nowhere.”

Lucian laughed.

Adrian continued.

“They let her old loyalists move first.”

“If Domenico crushes them, I inherit what survives.”

“If she somehow wins, I show her supporters the recordings and prove she used them.”

Lucian:

“And me?”

Adrian:

“You take the North Shore routes I promised.”

Lucian:

“East Harbor?”

Adrian smiled.

“Never.”

Lucian’s expression hardened.

Adrian continued.

“By the time you realize that, the Ravellis are united under me again.”

Genevieve slowly looked toward her son.

Domenico did too.

Adrian had not been Lucian’s partner.

He had planned to betray him as well.

Every alliance was temporary.

Every person disposable.

Lucian.

Genevieve.

The old capos.

Even Lily’s fear.

Adrian had constructed a conflict where every outcome moved him upward.

Then Lucian asked the question that changed the room.

“And Carlo’s ring?”

Adrian lifted it on-screen.

“My mother stole it from the crypt before the coffin closed.”

Genevieve’s eyes shifted.

Adrian continued.

“She thinks it makes me Salvatore’s heir.”

Lucian:

“Does it?”

Adrian laughed.

“No.”

A pause.

“It makes her the thief if Domenico finds it.”

Genevieve whispered:

“No.”

Adrian in the room looked away.

The recording continued.

“I hid it in her favorite fireplace.”

Lucian frowned.

“Why?”

Adrian:

“If the coup fails, Domenico finds his father’s stolen ring where my mother spends half her receptions.”

“She becomes the architect.”

“I become the son manipulated by a woman obsessed with the past.”

Genevieve’s face collapsed.

Not into fear.

Into fury.

The ring.

The camera.

The secret council.

The old grievance.

Adrian had intentionally left every trail pointing first toward her.

The woman who thought she was placing him on a throne had been his shield from the beginning.

Then Lucian said:

“You trust Domenico to believe you?”

Adrian smiled.

“No.”

“I trust him to hate her first.”

Domenico paused the recording.

No one spoke.

The major twist reframed everything.

Genevieve had betrayed Domenico willingly.

She had planted resentment in Adrian.

Used Lily as an unwitting spy.

Threatened a child.

Organized secret meetings.

But Adrian had built a second conspiracy beneath hers.

He allowed his mother to believe she was using him while he positioned her to absorb every consequence.

Genevieve looked at Adrian.

Her eyes were wet now.

Not with remorse.

With rage.

“You planned this before I ever called the old capos.”

Adrian did not answer.

She stepped closer.

“You put the camera in the dinosaur before I agreed to move against Domenico.”

Silence.

Domenico’s eyes narrowed.

Genevieve turned toward him.

“The camera wasn't my idea.”

Adrian’s jaw tightened.

There.

One more layer.

Domenico looked at him.

“When?”

No answer.

Matteo checked the first memory timestamp.

Seven weeks earlier.

Genevieve’s secret meetings began four weeks earlier.

Adrian had been spying before his mother openly joined the coup.

Genevieve understood.

“He was looking for something.”

Domenico’s voice dropped.

“What?”

Adrian smiled again.

Arrogance returning because at last he still held one thing they did not know.

“That’s the part none of you recorded.”

Then Lily spoke.

Quiet.

Almost overlooked.

“Dino did.”

Everyone turned.

She pointed at the screen.

“There’s another man.”

Matteo scanned farther back.

An older clip opened.

Seven weeks earlier.

Adrian in the council corridor.

A man beside him.

Face hidden.

Voice clear.

One Domenico knew instantly.

May you like

Rocco Marino.

The elder capo who had spent the entire night exposing Genevieve’s lies had been meeting Adrian before any of them knew there was a coup.
