Chapter 6

Veronica filed a civil claim.

She alleged Alexander had intimidated her, destroyed her property, and used bodyguards to remove her from a residence where she had established legal occupancy.

The shoe rack incident became central.

Rebecca was not surprised.

“You drove a stool into furniture.”

“She had just shoved Sofia.”

“I know.”

“Then stop saying it like I attacked a shoe rack for entertainment.”

“I’m saying the footage matters.”

There was no useful footage inside the dressing room.

The camera had been disabled.

That became a problem for both sides.

Alexander had Sofia.

Veronica had her own account.

The bodyguards had entered only after the most important moments.

Evelyn had been sent away.

Rebecca refused to let Alexander publicly release Sofia’s medical information or turn her into media content.

He agreed.

Veronica’s claim increased pressure for discovery.

That helped.

Maison Privé produced limited records showing Veronica had been negotiating something called the Vaughn Flagship Residential Account.

The wording irritated Alexander.

His home was not a flagship anything.

Rebecca kept reading.

The proposal was larger than staff replacement.

Maison Privé wanted the Vaughn estate as a showcase account—its first fully managed residential property in Chicago.

If successful, the company planned to market the model to other ultra-high-net-worth families.

Veronica would receive compensation as a consulting partner.

Still legal if Alexander agreed.

He had not.

The third clue emerged in an internal planning email dated two months before the engagement crisis.

A Maison Privé executive wrote:

Veronica confirms household resistance will be resolved before launch. Current staff culture is tied too closely to prior family structure.

Alexander read it twice.

“Household resistance.”

Rebecca nodded.

“Could mean employees unwilling to transition.”

“Or Sofia.”

“We don’t know.”

That distinction mattered.

Alexander continued reading.

Another line:

Child routine must be separated from legacy personnel for full-service control to function.

Legacy personnel.

Evelyn.

Sofia’s nanny.

Staff connected to Caroline.

People loyal to the child rather than Veronica.

Alexander sat back.

The pattern was getting clearer.

But not complete.

Veronica seemed to be treating a marriage as an operational takeover.

The question was why she needed it badly enough to terrorize a four-year-old.
