Chapter 22 - ARTURO’S LAST BOARD MEETING
Arturo attended his last Bellini Holdings board meeting at eighty-two.
Not because anyone forced him out.
He had remained a nonexecutive observer after retirement, invited by the board.
Eventually he became tired.
He told me:
“I understand the packet. I just don’t care anymore.”
Best capacity assessment he ever gave.
At the meeting, he thanked the directors.
Then criticized three things.
One justified.
Two outdated.
Nobody pretended every word was wisdom because he was old.
Nobody dismissed every word because he was old either.
That balance had taken us years.
Afterward, a young director asked for a photograph.
Arturo agreed.
He wore the digital watch.
I laughed.
He looked at me.
