The investigation escaped the family’s control.
The county sheriff’s office requested the vehicle logs.
Child-protective investigators requested the hospital records.
The council’s insurer demanded an independent risk review after learning that company-controlled security systems might have been used during the incident.
Grant’s contracts were frozen, not terminated, until auditors could determine what services were legitimate.
Lucinda lost access to family-office systems.
She called Silvio once.
“I made a mistake.”
He listened.
“I was angry with Ethan. Grant said they’d be fine.”
“You told me you didn’t know it would get hot.”
“I didn’t.”
“You knew they were locked inside.”
Silence.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Another silence.
“Grant said we needed you distracted.”
“From what?”
She hung up.
That evening, Mara received notice that Grant intended to challenge the authenticity of the recovered climate logs.
If the administrator account was shared, attribution could become difficult.
The missing courtyard video made the problem worse.
Javier the valet could establish that Lucinda controlled the key.
Ethan could establish that Grant closed the door.
But a six-year-old under stress would be attacked by defense counsel if the case became criminal.
Silvio hated even thinking about it.
Then the forensic accountants found unexplained payments.
Grant’s company had billed the family $2.4 million for equipment upgrades across seven properties.
Approximately $680,000 of the equipment could not be located.
Several invoices traced back to vendors connected personally to Grant.
The money had helped cover loans on commercial properties he owned outside the family.
There was motive.
But not yet proof of the plan involving the children.
The last complication arrived from the valet system.
A digital dispatch had been created at 1:37 p.m.
Silvio Marchetti family departure — 2:10.
The problem was simple.
Silvio had never planned to leave at 2:10.
Somebody else had entered the request.
And according to the valet-system permissions, only two people could create a private family departure under Silvio’s name.
