Chapter 6

The safe house was bathed in the bright, cheerful sunlight of early morning, a stark contrast to the dark, violent planning occurring within its walls. The cinematic lighting highlighted the vivid, vibrant colors of the blueprints spread across the large oak dining table. Marcus leaned over the architectural schematics of the massive Sterling estate, his finger tracing the intricate security perimeters.

Naomi sat opposite him, holding a sleeping Amelia in her arms. Her fair, rosy skin had regained some of its color after a few hours of rest and strong painkillers, but the fierce, unyielding determination in her large, expressive dark brown eyes remained absolute. She looked stunningly beautiful, but the ugly bruise on her cheek served as a constant reminder of her mission.

"The main estate is located in the northern hills," Marcus explained, his American accent sharp and professional. "Walter and Patricia occupy the west wing. Vanessa stays in the guest house. But Brandon... Brandon has a dedicated, highly secured suite on the third floor of the east wing. That’s where the nursery is. That’s where they’re keeping Elijah."

"What about security?" Naomi asked, her voice steady.

"It's tight," Marcus sighed, pointing to several red markers on the map. "They have roving patrols with attack dogs, biometric locks on the exterior doors, and a centralized camera system. But there is a blind spot. Today is Walter’s annual charity garden gala. The grounds will be flooded with hundreds of wealthy, white American donors. Valets, caterers, musicians. The security will be focused entirely on managing the perimeter and the guests."

"A crowd," Naomi murmured, her softly sculpted cheekbones catching the bright light as she nodded. "That's how we get in. We hide in plain sight."

"I managed to secure two uniforms from the catering company they hired," Marcus said, pulling a duffel bag onto the table. "We go in through the service entrance. We blend in with the waitstaff. But Naomi, once we are inside the mansion, we have to split up. I need to access the security room in the basement to loop the camera feeds, otherwise, they will spot you on the third floor immediately."

"I can handle myself," Naomi promised, her naturally full lips setting into a hard line.

"You need to be prepared," Marcus warned, reaching into his jacket and placing a heavy, sleek black handgun on the blueprints. "Walter's private security doesn't mess around. If they catch you upstairs, they won't ask questions. They will shoot."

Naomi stared at the weapon. She was a mother, a widow, a woman who had never held a gun in her life. But as she thought of Walter's furious, merciless face, and Brandon's triumphant smile as he stole her swaddled newborn, the hesitation vanished. She reached out with a steady hand and picked up the heavy firearm, feeling its cold, metallic weight.

"I won't let them stop me," Naomi vowed quietly.

"I'll stay in the car with Amelia during the breach," Marcus added gently. "She will be safe. But Naomi, you have to be fast. If the alarm trips before you get back to the extraction point, I will have to drive away to protect your daughter."

"I know," Naomi agreed, slipping the gun into the waistband of her pants. She looked down at the beautiful, medium-brown skin of her sleeping daughter. She pressed a gentle kiss to Amelia's forehead. "I'll be back, my sweet girl. I am going to bring your brother home."

The cinematic lighting of the safe house felt suddenly charged with an electric, high-stakes energy. The plan was set. The mother was armed. The Sterling family was about to learn that they had stolen from the wrong woman.
