Chapter 14

Emma received a new dress.
Not another flower-girl dress.
Sophia refused that idea.
Instead Bellweather Atelier repaired the original as much as possible.
The missing section could not be invisibly replaced.
The seamstress suggested making an entirely new skirt.
Emma disagreed.
“I want my dress.”
So they repaired it honestly.
A narrow band of different fabric remained where Bianca had cut through.
Sophia initially hated seeing it.
Emma did not.
“It has stripe.”
“Yes.”
“Pretty.”
Sophia looked at the seamstress.
The woman shrugged.
“Three-year-olds are efficient critics.”
The repaired dress became Emma’s favorite.
She wore it to dinner.
A museum.
Once to preschool until Sophia caught her halfway out the door.
Raffaele saw her wearing it during a family lunch.
“That dress again?”
Emma spun.
“Fixed.”
He looked at the seam.
Nothing hidden.
Nothing restored perfectly.
Still usable.
He understood why Sophia had let her keep it.
The wedding incident was no longer defining the garment.
Emma was.
Bianca completed court-ordered treatment and continued privately afterward.
She did not ask for contact.
That helped Sophia more than a dramatic apology would have.
Gregory received his final sentence and financial penalties.
Hale Event Management was sold through restructuring.
The viable parts survived under different ownership.
The inflated wedding payments were recovered where possible.
The Carbone estate no longer hosted weddings for associates simply because family loyalty made contracts feel unnecessary.
Raffaele joked that this was Claire’s greatest achievement.
Claire replied:
“My greatest achievement would be getting you to read before signing.”
“Let’s stay realistic.”
Sophia returned gradually to family-office work after maternity leave.
Her second daughter, Lily, was born healthy.
Raffaele cried at the hospital.
He denied it afterward.
Emma told everyone.
“Grandpa cried like baby.”
Raffaele decided there were some witnesses even he could not intimidate.
But Sophia did not return full-time.
That surprised him.
She reduced her role.
Built a separate advisory practice.
Moved more of her life outside Carbone operations.

Raffaele did not stop her.
That surprised her.
