Chapter 14 - HER FIRST QUESTION FOR GRANDMA

Our daughter did not see her grandmother for a year.
Her choice supported by therapist recommendation.
Then she asked:
“Is Grandma still mad I’m real?”
That sentence nearly killed me.
We corrected gently.
Grandma always knew Daddy was Daddy.
Grandma told a lie because she was angry about adult family things.
“Then why chain?”
Because she wanted people to think you did not belong.
“Did I?”
No.
“Even if DNA said no?”
That question mattered.
My husband answered.
“You would still be my daughter.”
She looked confused.
“But paper?”
“Paper can tell us biology. It doesn’t decide whether I raised you, loved you, or am legally your dad.”
In our case, biology matched too.
But we refused to make biology the moral rescue.
Otherwise her grandmother’s premise would survive.
