Chapter 18 - MY HUSBAND AND HIS MOTHER

Their relationship never returned to what it had been.

Good.

Before, my husband called her every morning.

Afterward, once a week.

Then twice.

Then ordinary contact developed again slowly.

No access to our daughter without permission.

No surprise visits.

No decisions through guilt.

His mother complained:

“I have to ask for everything now.”

He said:

“Yes.”

“I’m your mother.”

“Yes.”

“That used to mean something.”

May you like

“It still does. It doesn’t mean access without asking.”

That distinction became the central reform of their relationship.
