Chapter 15 - Judith loses the easy story

Judith had spent months telling relatives:

Naomi is stealing Harold’s home.

That story collapsed once title records became public in court.

She changed it.

Now:

Naomi is exploiting Lily’s trust to evict grieving grandparents.

More emotionally effective.

Legally incomplete.

Judith testified that Margaret Mercer always intended Harold to live there for life.

Possible.

The trust gave him occupancy.

Then why conditions?

Because Margaret also wanted the next generation protected.

Judith said:

“We never hurt Lily.”

The barbecue video played.

Carla struck Lily.

Judith rushed to Carla.

“Don’t make a scene. She deserved it.”

Judith closed her eyes.

“I meant discipline.”

Trust judge asked:

“Did you consider tending to the injured child before defending the adult?”

“No.”

That answer mattered.

Then prior remarks.

Texts to Carla:

If Naomi leaves, Lily will follow eventually.

She needs to understand this is Harold’s home first.

Daniel made a mistake tying the house to a child.

There.

Judith had known the trust structure.

Then one message:

If Lily doesn’t want to come here anymore, Meridian has no reason to keep this place for her.

Not a direct abuse plan.

But motive to make the property emotionally unpleasant.

Could Judith have encouraged Carla’s violence?

No evidence.

No criminal conspiracy.

The court did not invent one.

Still:

Judith’s attitude toward Lily’s presence mattered to occupancy safety.
