Clara had a son at thirty-two.
Leo.
At five, he ruined a formal family photograph by refusing to sit.
Arthur was retired.
Another photographer waited.
Leo wanted to stand behind his mother.
Fine.
Then he moved.
Then crouched.
Then hid behind me.
The photographer sighed.
Clara said:
“Take it.”
Flash.
Leo’s face barely visible.

The family printed it anyway.
