Chapter 6

Claire wanted Leo kept away from the estate immediately.

For once, Carmine did not fight her.

They agreed on a temporary arrangement.

Leo would stay primarily with Claire while Carmine found separate housing away from the Bellucci compound.

Carmine would see him daily.

No overnight visits at the estate.

No Helena.

No family meetings around him.

Several relatives reacted as though Claire had won a war.

Carmine corrected them.

“My son isn’t territory.”

His uncle muttered something about weakness.

Carmine heard him.

“So did my father.”

The room went silent.

Carmine had not criticized his father publicly in twenty years.

The temporary move changed the family atmosphere.

Without Leo at the estate, Helena lost her most useful argument.

She could no longer say she was merely helping with a difficult child.

Her attorney sent a formal statement.

Helena denied any attempt to interfere with custody.

She said she believed Carmine was too permissive and that Leo needed consistent expectations.

She admitted withholding treats.

She denied withholding meals.

The staff contradicted her.

The pediatrician documented Leo’s condition after the gala.

Claire’s kitchen records showed he ate heavily after several transfers from Carmine’s home.

Maria’s testimony connected the pattern.

Nothing yet established the final motive.

Then Claire’s attorney located an unusual communication.

Three months earlier, someone using the name Concerned Bellucci Employee contacted her office.

The person asked what circumstances would justify emergency custody modification.

The attorney did not provide legal advice to an anonymous stranger.

But the email remained archived.

The writer asked specifically about evidence of:

missed meals,

dirty clothing,

dangerous household associates,

lack of parental supervision,

and retaliatory behavior by a powerful father.

Carmine read the questions.

Every category later appeared in the anonymous photographs.

Julia checked the dates.

The message was sent before the first documented garage punishment.

Whoever contacted Claire’s attorney had not merely observed neglect.

They had listed the kind of neglect they wanted to establish before the pattern began.

Carmine looked at Julia.

“That’s planning.”

“Yes.”

“Can we prove Helena sent it?”

“Not yet.”

Claire folded her arms.

“But someone knew exactly what they were going to make happen.”

Julia nodded.

May you like

“Yes.”

That distinction pushed the case from cruelty toward design.
