Chapter 12

Victoria’s deepest fear eventually surfaced.

Her mother had remarried when Victoria was seven.

The new husband had a son.

Everything shifted toward him.

Bedroom.

Vacations.

Photographs.

Inheritance expectations.

Victoria became the “older girl who should understand.”

There it was.

She had lived Noah’s experience.

Then recreated it from the winning side.

She thought if Sophie became first, her daughter would never experience what she had.

Trauma did not make her cruel automatically.

But she used it as a map.

Wrong map.

I told her:

“You knew exactly what second feels like.”

She cried.

“Yes.”

“That should have stopped you.”

May you like

“I know.”

Finally.
