Chapter 6

I canceled the wedding.
Not just engagement.
Everything.
Venues.
Dinner.
Guest rooms.
Family ceremony.
Victoria stared when I said it.
“You already ended the engagement.”
“Yes.”
“Why announce more?”
“Because half the house still thinks this is an argument.”
It wasn’t.
No cooling-off period.
No strategic pause.
No future wedding unless an entirely new relationship somehow existed years later.
I did not expect one.
Victoria cried.
Then asked:
“What happens to Sophie?”
That was the first question that made me pause.
Because Sophie had become part of our lives.
Noah liked her.
I cared about her.
Ending a marriage does not automatically erase a child relationship.
But neither could I promise access over Victoria’s head.
I said:
“What Sophie wants matters.”
May you like
Victoria nodded slowly.
For once, she did not argue.
