Chapter 14

Sofia delivered a five-pound, nine-ounce baby girl after fourteen hours of induction.

There was no cinematic crisis.

No sudden catastrophe.

The baby needed extra monitoring for blood sugar and temperature but breathed on her own.

Sofia named her Amelia Rose Hale.

She kept the surname for the moment.

Not for Grant.

Because she was too tired to turn a birth certificate into another battlefield.

Lorenzo met his granddaughter forty minutes later.

He held her as though someone had handed him glass.

Sofia laughed for the first time in weeks.

“You’ve held babies before.”

“Not this one.”

The main exposure came days later.

Grant’s formal protective-order hearing and related family-court proceedings began using the documented pattern.

The criminal aspects of the garden incident were also evaluated separately.

No instant verdict solved everything.

But temporary restrictions remained.

Grant could not approach Sofia directly.

Any future contact involving Amelia would require court-approved structure.

Eleanor had no independent right to demand access.

The Bellucci businesses completed their internal review.

The medical center corrected Sofia’s contact information and flagged her record so only she could authorize changes.

Grant had one last opportunity through counsel to acknowledge the conduct and agree to a structured treatment and parenting plan.

His lawyer delivered Sofia’s response.

Accountability first.

No private deal.

No blaming Lorenzo.

No calling pregnancy “hormones.”

No minimizing the garden.

Grant hesitated for three days.

Then signed an initial agreement to begin a certified intervention program while the legal process continued.

It was not redemption.

It was the first decision he made that did not require Sofia to surrender something in return.

Eleanor refused to sign a written acknowledgment of her role.

She continued insisting she had only protected her son.

Sofia stopped asking.

Lorenzo also cooperated with the review of his own conduct in the garden.

He did not pressure staff.

Did not edit statements.

Did not call favors.

His lawyer hated how calmly he said:

“If they think I crossed a line, they can say so.”

Sofia heard about that later.

She did not praise him.

May you like

She simply trusted him a little more.

That meant more.
