Ryan and Emily never reconciled romantically.
People kept expecting a twist.
There wasn’t one.
He changed.
She changed.
The marriage still ended.
That does not make change pointless.
Ryan became a better father than husband.
Grace liked him.
Emily allowed that without rewriting history.

Healthy.
At three, Grace once asked:
“Daddy live here?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Emily answered:
“Mommy and Daddy are better in different houses.”
Enough.
No villain story.
No false harmony.
Then Grace asked for juice.
Conversation over.
Children again restoring scale.
Linda eventually became useful in a new way.
Asked before helping.
Sometimes painfully.
“Would you like me to watch Grace Saturday?”

I’ll take her.
“Can I bring dinner?”
