Chapter 14

Grant looked smaller without the tuxedo.

No family pin.

No luxury watch.

Just a dark suit in Rachel’s conference room.

Massimo sat across from him.

“What do you want?”

Grant slid a settlement proposal across the table.

Repayment of certain trust losses.

Surrender of interests in the watch company.

Agreement to resign from remaining Caradonna-associated roles.

In return, Grant wanted the family to characterize the trust misuse as a private financial dispute and avoid supporting additional outside scrutiny beyond what was legally required.

Massimo did not touch the papers.

“You still think this is about reputation.”

“It’s about Noah.”

“No.”

Grant leaned forward.

“If this gets uglier, my son grows up reading about it.”

“Maybe.”

“You want that?”

“No.”

“Then help me contain it.”

Massimo looked at him.

Years earlier, the offer might have worked.

Protect the child by hiding the father’s wrongdoing.

Protect Isabella by controlling the story.

Protect the family name by making consequences private.

That logic had built the entire problem.

“I’ll do one thing for Noah.”

Grant waited.

“I won’t humiliate you for entertainment.”

Grant’s face tightened.

“But I won’t lie for you either.”

Massimo pushed the proposal back.

“Repay what you owe because you owe it. Cooperate because the evidence exists. Be a better father because your son deserves one.”

“And if I don’t?”

Massimo’s old instincts surfaced.

He could have answered with something that sounded lethal.

Instead he said:

“Then every consequence that follows belongs to you.”

Grant stared at him.

No threat.

No bargain.

Nothing to fight.

That seemed to frighten him more.

Later that afternoon Isabella was given the same settlement proposal.

She rejected the confidentiality language.

She accepted repayment terms that protected Noah’s trust.

That distinction mattered.

She did not need Grant publicly destroyed.

She needed the damage repaired where possible.

The independent board authorized recovery actions.

Required referrals proceeded.

Grant’s employment removal became permanent.

Evelyn lost every formal role tied to Noah’s finances.

The family could no longer stop the process even if Massimo changed his mind.

For once, he was relieved by that.
