When Samuel proposed, I laughed.

Not because I did not love him.

Because Evelyn immediately said:

“I am not reviewing another wedding document on the wedding morning.”

Fair.

We negotiated a prenup.

Samuel hired independent counsel.

No ego.

No family integration agreement.

No voting proxy.

No business access.

He kept his architecture firm.

Then I asked:

“Do you feel like this means I don’t trust you?”

“No. I feel like you own complicated things.”

Good.

We married at city hall.

No capos lining hallways.
