Chapter 26 - PRESTON’S LAST CONTACT

Preston contacted me once more when he was fifty-eight.

Through counsel.

He wanted permission to use the bridal-suite incident in a treatment program for men convicted of domestic violence.

Not my name.

Not business details.

His own conduct.

I agreed on conditions:

No glamorizing me as a Mafia bride.

No claiming I “beat” him in a duel.

No portraying the assault as mutual combat.

No implying my physical skill made what happened less serious.

He accepted.

Later I received a transcript.

Preston told the group:

“The woman I attacked was physically capable of defending herself. I used that fact for years to minimize what I did. Her ability to stop me did not make my decision less abusive.”

Good.

Then:

“I thought marriage meant I had a right to end negotiation.”

May you like

There.

Nothing else needed saying.
