Chapter 10

The major twist arrived from the camera’s local memory.
Not the edited angle.
The full engineering feed.
Every device installed in the bridal suite had a commissioning mode before activation.
A technician had tested the camera twelve hours earlier.
That test recording had never been deleted.
Giulietta watched it with her attorney.
Warren.
Marcello.
Luca.
All three stood inside the bridal suite the night before the wedding.
Preston was not there.
Marcello walked to the vanity.
He positioned the camera.
Warren objected to the angle.
“It doesn’t show enough.”
Marcello answered:
“It shows what we need.”
Luca stood near the door.
Silent.
Then came the line that changed everything.
Warren:
And if she doesn't react?
Marcello smiled.
Then we make Preston believe she already betrayed him.
Giulietta paused the video.
Preston looked at the screen.
“What?”
Warren’s face changed.
He had not known that part.
Neither had Luca.
Giulietta resumed.
Marcello removed a folder.
Photographs.
Messages.
Bank transfers.
All fabricated.
They appeared to show Giulietta secretly arranging to dissolve the Hale partnership after the wedding while keeping Preston legally bound to debt obligations.
Marcello planned to give them to Preston that morning.
Make him furious.
Make him feel humiliated.
Then place a weapon within reach.
Warren stared at the footage.
His breathing became rough.
“He told me Preston understood the plan.”
Preston looked at his father.
“You knew they wanted me angry.”
Warren’s jaw tightened.
“Yes.”
“You didn't know why.”
“No.”
Preston laughed once.
A broken sound.
Giulietta kept watching.
Marcello continued on video.
If Preston frightens her, she fights back.
If he hurts her, Warren blames the son.
If she attacks him, we have the footage.
Either way, the marriage fails on our terms.
Luca’s face on screen changed.
He finally asked:
Why would you want the marriage to fail?
Marcello smiled.
Because I don't need a marriage.
I need the emergency transfer active long enough to move the votes.
The room went silent.
That was the true plan.
Marcello never intended Preston to become permanent Marconi power.
The Hales were tools.
The wedding agreement, the camera, the provocation, the golf club, the board vote—
all designed to create a short window of chaos.
Long enough for Marcello to seize the disciplinary ledger.
Activate compromised capos.
Remove Giulietta.
Then cancel the Hale alliance before Preston gained lasting control.
Warren had been promised ports.
Preston had been promised status.
Luca had been promised relief for Daniel.
Every man had been given a different future.
Marcello planned to deliver none of them.
Giulietta looked at Warren.
For the first time, the older man appeared genuinely shaken.
“You were being used.”
His jaw tightened.
“So were you.”
Giulietta looked at the screen.
“No.”
Her voice lowered.
“I was the target.”
She turned toward Preston.
“And you were the weapon.”
Preston stared at the golf club on the floor.
His breathing changed.
He finally understood the ugliest part.
Marcello had studied Warren’s abusive philosophy.
Studied Preston’s insecurity.
Studied Giulietta’s temper.
Then arranged them in one room and trusted all three to behave exactly as their wounds had taught them.
Giulietta’s eyes went cold.
“He almost won because none of us surprised him.”
Then her phone vibrated.
A message from Marcello.
YOU WATCHED THE VIDEO.
A second message arrived.
GOOD.
A third.
NOW ASK LUCA WHO GAVE ME THE ORIGINAL LEDGER.
Giulietta slowly looked up.
Luca’s face collapsed.
May you like
The betrayal had not started with his son’s debt.
It had started years earlier.
