Chapter 11

Vanessa tried to approach Adrian.
The boy stepped backward.
Her hands froze in front of her.
She slowly lowered them.
That small act mattered.
“I’m sorry.”
Adrian’s face tightened.
“No.”
Vanessa swallowed.
“I know that isn't enough.”
“No.”
His breathing became ragged.
“You don't get to say it yet.”
Vanessa closed her eyes.
Raffaele did not force Adrian to remain.
He did not force him to forgive.
The boy walked away.
Grant watched him go.
Then looked at Raffaele.
“What happens now?”
Raffaele’s eyes shifted toward him.
Grant’s back straightened on instinct.
Some part of him still expected violence.
Raffaele saw it.
So did Vanessa.
For years, fear of Raffaele had shaped how both siblings made decisions.
He would not let them use that fear as an excuse now.
“Everything gets preserved.”
Grant frowned.
“Everything?”
“The invoices. Labels. emails. helmet fragments. financial records.”
Grant’s mouth tightened.
“You’ll destroy the charity.”
“Maybe.”
“You’ll destroy Vanessa.”
Raffaele looked at his wife.
She could not meet his eyes.
“No.”
His voice stayed quiet.
“She made choices. I’m refusing to hide them.”
The records went to independent counsel and appropriate safety investigators.
Raffaele also preserved the courtyard footage.
Grant attacking Adrian.
Raffaele punching Grant.
Vanessa grabbing Rebecca.
Raffaele striking Vanessa.
His attorney warned him.
“You understand your conduct will be reviewed too?”
“Yes.”
“You could narrow the production.”
“No.”
Raffaele removed his signet ring and placed it on the desk for a moment.
“If rules only reach people beneath me, then nothing changes.”
The attorney nodded.
Then the foundation auditor entered.
He carried the original helmet procurement authorization.
Raffaele recognized the signature.
His own.
He had approved Grant’s company as exclusive equipment supplier three years earlier without competitive review.
Vanessa had recommended it.
Grant had benefited.

But Raffaele had opened the door.
The scandal now carried his name for a reason.
