Chapter 18 - MILENA AND GRACE

Grace forgave my mother later than I did.
Correct.
Milena asked to meet.
Grace refused twice.
Accepted the third time.
Neutral place.
No me.
Grace told me afterward.
Milena said:
“I thought money solved uncertainty.”
Grace answered:
“It solved rent.”
Good distinction.
Then:
“You made me believe Angelo rejected Luke.”
“Yes.”
“You made him believe I rejected him.”
“Yes.”
“You paid my mother while she was sick and made her think keeping your secret was protecting me.”
Milena cried.
“Yes.”
Then Grace said:
“I can forgive what you did to me before I can forgive what you made Luke lose.”
Three years.
First words.
First steps.
First birthday.
Second.
Third.
Not recoverable.
Milena answered:
“I know.”

No plea for absolution.
